Day One:  My Online Income System by Kim Hoffman

It was a new day and I was ready to start this “My Online Income System” thing again.  I logged into my email to find 4-5 new emails from Kim and her team promising wealth and selling me on some other product….”you been selected to participate in Kim’s elite business development team” and “take advantage of this deal before its gone.”  I ignored these emails and pressed on… STAY ON TRACK.  Throughout the day, I found this to be the resounding lesson for me.  The more I learned, the more I wanted to go and research all the different websites and programs they were talking about.  I found that this just did more to confuse me and took me a away from focusing on the product I had purchased.  So my advice to you is to STAY ON TRACK and don’t let yourself go off on tangents.

So before I started my day one lesson, I decided to check out my “free website” that I had signed up for the day before.  I typed in the address to find a website that I had seen many times in the past couple days as I was looking for programs to check out…. Does website like “Top 3 Online Business Opportunities” look familiar?  I you have done any searching on the website I am positive you have run across these websites… well now I have one and my website is a predesigned “top 3” site for online income systems where if someone buys a system through my site I get a hefty commission on the sale….. ahhhh now I know why there is so many websites out there like this.

The start of Kim’s program provided general overview of basic concepts….she explained what affiliate marketing was, how it worked, and touch on more advanced income streams such as freelancing and actually selling your own products.  Like I said before, I started getting off track right from the beginning so I started a list of sites that I want to investigate later once I was done with this program.  I recommend you do the same.

The next step was signing up for a Clickbank account and Kim touched briefly on finding online products through the Clickbank website to promote through affiliate marketing.  She also explained metrics to look for with each product such as what a good “GRAR” number was.  The information was pretty basic stuff looking back on it, but for a beginner like me it was definitely useful and educational.

So once the concepts of Affiliate Marketing were explained, she touched on various ways to promote products online: articles, paid advertising, blogs, classifieds, and forums.  While reading she mentioned and referenced techniques from something called the “Bum Marketing Method.”  I had actually come across this term in my research, so I checked out the site to learn more.  The website contained a lot of useful information and I was glad I checked it out… suddenly the whole “affiliate marketing” system started to make sense to me as I learned how to effectively maximize search results on my products, tricks to getting on the first search page of Google, and reinforcing concepts Kim touched on such as promoting products through articles and classifieds.

The entire day was certainly an enlightening experience despite having to delete 2-3 more emails from Kim in my inbox.  I was starting to be optimistic about the endeavor.  Then suddenly I had an idea….. I CAN DO THIS MYSELF!!!

THE SIGN UP: My Online Income System by Kim Hoffman

THE SIGN UP:  My Online Income System by Kim Hoffman

So as I said before, I decided to take the plunge and sign up for one of these income system sites knowing that there was a real possibility that I may never make back my investment.  I was ignorant and I had to start somewhere.

I went to the main page, My Online Income System, read the pitch about Kim as a single mom from Colorado, read testimonials from several people with serious doubts in my mind as to if those testimonials are from real people, and of course read the many promises of making money and establishing your own online business from home.  I had that uneasy feeling in my stomach telling me “if something sounds to good to be true, then it probably is!”  Regardless, I hit the “sign me up” button and pressed on.

The basic sign up for the program is $47.00 and consists of a 60 day program for members to work through a marketing strategy called “Affiliate Marketing” (don’t worry if you don’t know what that means because I didn’t either when I signed up).  Sounds good to me, but wait…. I had just paid for the basic membership when I was immediately blasted about signing up for the VIP upgrade membership for another $67.00.  “Oh boy,” I said to myself.  “I just signed myself up for endless promotions.”  I was really skeptical…I read through the description of the course which consists of an 11 day program discussing how to become a “Vendor”.  I was hooked… so I signed up for that one also…. OUCH!!!

So if you are keeping track I had just paid $47.00 for the basic sign up and another $67.00 for the VIP upgrade.  Within an hour I was already out a total of $114.00 and I hadn’t even started yet.

After getting through both those sign ups I went to the main page and was hit with another offer to get your “FREE MONEY MAKING WEBSITE.”  I went and signed up for my free website and…. You guessed it…. Was pitched an upgrade / pro option for $97.00… WHAT!!!  I passed on the pro option only to be asked again to upgrade but this time for only $67.00.  I passed again, and was offered pro for $37.00.  I was fed up by now, and this was beginning to look like it had SCAM written all over it…. Endless advertisements and offers with no real substance.  There were already several emails from Kim in my inbox about “special private invitations to once in a lifetime offers” and “you have been personally selected to participate in my advance marketing team.”  To think I had given them my phone number when I signed up… I hope my phone doesn’t start ringing off the hook with more offers.  I was pissed, frustrated, and even more confused.  I threw up my hands, turned off the computer a went to bed with a bad taste in my mouth.

Perhaps I would try it again tomorrow.

One day, after scouring more job boards and faced with reaching 3 months of unemployment.  I decided to research some of these to good to be true “opportunities.”  I looked at stock markets ads, work at home ads, data entry, medical billing, etc….  I cross referenced with scam review forums, review sites, etc…  Anything I could find that had 3rd party info on some of these marketing schemes.  One of the sites I used the most was http://www.scam.com/.  I would recommend it as a resource.  As you probably already guessed, there are lots of scams out there, lots to be wary of, and to be completely honest I didn’t find one of the advertised opportunities that were completely on the up and up.

I ended up latching onto a marketing scheme/product that was called “My Online Income System by Kim Hoffman”.  Like so many other products out there, the information was promising but eerily ambiguous.  There was bad and good reviews out there by a multitude of people.  Some just copy and pasted pitches straight of the main website and promoted it.  I get it, everyone is trying to sell something, but it was utterly frustrating that I had such a hard time getting a straight read on any product I was researching.

So to be honest… I just went with my gut and said “I am going to try Kim Hoffman’s product.”  I am completely ignorant about what it is she was selling or even what it was that I would be required to do, but I had to start somewhere.  I knew if I was going to educate myself on these types of business ventures I needed to start somewhere and for me, I was going to start with Kim Hoffman.  Sometimes the best education in a new subject matter is through failure, but I hoped for my sake that this would yield results.

My Story / The Beginning

Welcome to “The UnEmployed Father” blog.  I must admit and state upfront that this is a new experience for me and I am learning as I go.  With that said any advice or suggestions anyone has out there are welcomed and appreciated.

Please visit my unedited site at http://theunemployedfather.info/wordpress/

About Me:  Well, I am a 31 year old husband and father of 2 young boys and yes, as the title of my blog suggests…. I am UnEmployed!!!  We live in rural Michigan where many businesses live and die by the automotive industry….  Well, anyone who has heard the news in the last few years knows how hard the American automotive industry has been hit by the economy.  So as you may have guessed, many businesses in Michigan have either died or are gasping their last breaths struggling to make it through.  I unfortunately am one of the many victims of that slump and the current recession.

I have never drawn unemployment until recently and have never had a difficult time finding good work… but these days are tough and I am discovering that finding work is truly a full-time JOB (too bad it doesn’t pay).  The effort and time you put in scouring job boards, internet postings, modifying cover letters and resumes, interviews, phone calls, mailings…. Those of you who have been there know what I mean.

So after doing all this for a couple months, I couldn’t help but start looking and considering alternatives.  All of you have seen the “work from home” or “I made $150,000 in 30 days” type advertisements.  Like me, those of you who have good jobs probably never think twice about these opportunities.  But when you are looking for work and things are tough, you can’t help but be drawn to them.

SO WHAT IS THIS BLOG ABOUT?

So… your wondering what this site is all about?  Well, I am a real unemployed guy who is going to stick his neck out there, take the plunge, and try out one or several of these so-called “great online opportunities”  and the BEST part about it is that I am going to chronicle my successes or failures here so that all of you who are in the same situation as I am can learn from my mistakes.
